5 Common Makeup Mistakes and How to Fix Them

Makeup Mistakes and How to Fix Them

1. Applying Foundation on Dry or Unprepped Skin

The mistake:
Foundation clings to dry patches, emphasizing texture and making your skin look uneven.

2. Using Too Much Concealer Under the Eyes

The mistake:
Layering thick concealer can highlight fine lines and look heavy.

How to fix it:
Use a lightweight, creamy concealer and apply only a small dot in the inner and outer corners of your eyes. Blend it out with your finger or sponge. If you need extra coverage, add thin layers instead of one thick coat.

3. Overly Harsh Contour or Blush Placement

The mistake:
Applying contour too low or blush too close to the mouth can drag the face down.

How to fix it:
Place contour slightly higher on your cheekbones to lift the face visually. For blush, smile gently and apply it on the apples of your cheeks, sweeping upward toward your temples. Cream products help create a more blended, skin like finish.

4. Skipping Brow Grooming

The mistake:
Neglecting your brows or using a color that’s too dark can make your features appear unbalanced.

How to fix it:
Brush your brows upward and fill in sparse areas with small, hair like strokes. Choose a brow pencil or powder one shade lighter than your natural brow color for a softer look. I usually choose tiny tiny bit lighter than my eyebrow.

5. Not Setting or Over-Setting Makeup

The mistake:
Skipping setting products can cause your makeup to move, while too much powder can make it look flat.

How to fix it:
Use a fine, translucent setting powder only on oily areas (like the T-zone). Then lightly mist your face with a setting spray to melt everything together and bring back a natural glow.
